Neanderthals

The earliest peoples that evidence suggests were visiting Creswell Crags during the Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age) were the Neanderthals. They lived between 200,000 and 30,000 years ago and are evident at Creswell for the last 25,000 years.

During this time, North-West Europe was an unbroken expanse of dry and open grassland. Creswell was presumably an outpost where groups made hunting expeditions. Discover more amazing history and become inspired with the products in this collection.
